An advanced course with an emphasis on coastal navigation and mileage building in preparation for becoming a Yachtmaster .
This multi-day program is best suited to intermediate/advanced sailors who wish to improve or experience coastal navigation, overnight sailing and/or need mileage to satisfy the prerequisites for the Yachtmaster exam.
This program usually takes 7 days BUT may take longer as circumstances/weather dictate. It is run by and accredited RYA Yachtmaster Instructor.
Sailing consists of longer (60nm+) passages as well as at least one overnight passage, requiring the introduction of a watch system and appropriate safety considerations. Ideal for those seeking to experience longer voyages and who need logged miles.
An RYA certificate is issued at the end of the course.
COURSE DESCRIPTION:Â In July 2023 the Topmast team will be sailing a Swan 44 (Swanning) from Lewisporte Newfoundland to Annapolis Maryland.
The trip will consist of 3.5 legs:
The price for each leg does not include travel to the departure port OR return travel from the arrival port. Food on board is included and cooking duties will be shared by all on board, food ashore is not included.
For anyone wanting to do multiple legs there will be a 10% discount and a 15% discount for anyone wanting to do the whole trip.
The instructor will contact you with the appropriate details regarding the course logistics. Basic considerations are a warm sleeping bag, foul weather gear and suitable footwear. Meals will be on board apart from meals ashore when in a port-of-call. Travelling to and from the boat will be at the student’s expense.

Under 4 weeks – No Refund. Topmast reserves the right to cancel any course. Our liability is limited to the course fee. You are advised to arrange cancellation insurance. Make payment PRIOR to the commencement of your course. If you have any complaints then please forward them to info@tomast.ca within 72 hours of course completion.
