internationally accepted certification

powerboat level 1 & 2

An entry level powerboat course leading to RYA certification.

Date

15 May 2023

Cost

$1,025.00

This course is best suited to beginners who have no experience powerboating OR or to those who have experience but require an RYA powerboat certificate in order to work on commercial vessels overseas.

The course is a full day with both on and off the water training and an emphasis on practical powerboat handling skills.
The overall focus is on learning, safety and fun.

This confidence builder is often simply referred to as the PB2.  The course has become one of the RYA’s most popular training programs.  Not only is it a great way for new boaters to get to grips with driving a powerboat safely and with confidence but it has also become a must-have certificate for those seeking work in the yachting industry.  It is also the basis for an ICC for power.

An RYA certificate is issued at the end of the course.

What do we learn?

  • Boat handling in close quarters
  • Securing to a buoy
  • Anchoring
  • Leaving and coming alongside
  • Man overboard
  • Preparation of boat and crew
  • Being towed
  • High speed maneuvering
  • Rules of the road and buoyage

But let’s face it the number one thing you really want to do is drive the boat – and yes, you’ll get to do a lot of that.

Tell me more about the certificate?

You will get an RYA photo-certificate which is registered with the RYA. It can be commercialized or used to apply for an ICC.  So make sure you bring a passport sized photo.

What is the boat like and where do we go?

The boat is a RIB (rigid inflatable boat) and has a centre console saddle seat setup.  The engine is a Yamaha 70hp and quite fast.  The boat is uncovered so yes, you can get wet.  We stay in the Kingston area but do go over to Wolfe Island for some training and a break.

What do I have to bring with me?

You will need a pen/pencil, notebook (for notes only, there is NO written exam!) photo ID (for the certificate), suitable clothing for a day on the water (a foul weather jacket just in case), water bottle, hat, sunscreen and shoes with non-marking soles.  We provide life-jackets but you may bring your own.  Bring snacks if you need them and a towel for drying off if you get wet (which may very well be the case!) .  Don’t forget the passport photo!
